I Hate the Term Faggot

The word faggot has become the new word for nigger. I have not heard this word used this loosely since I've been in my hometown in southern high school in good old Fuquay-Varina. Every time I hear someone say "that's gay" or your a "fucking faggot" I cringe and get mad. The idea that people are using someones sexuality as an offense pisses me off. It is so wrong on so many levels, the ignorance that surrounds that word is ridiculous. I was trying to explain this to someone in the program a little while ago, how the term faggot is just like a white person purposely calling a black person a nigger. He tried to argue that nigger is rooted in violence and racism, ha ha so is faggot. There is such a history of prejudice, judgement, and violent crimes against homosexuals. Just this morning I read an article in the Washington Post about a Pastor who was trying to make the argument that been gay is biological and something that can be changed when you are born, he proposed that this was some sort of way that God was punishing the parents of the baby.
It is so interesting how words hold so much power. It is now prevalent in society to describe women as hoes, bitches, or sluts. It is even common for women to refer to each other as such, even in a friendly way.
